I have tried many alternative health methods to shrink my fibroids, but
still they continure to grow. My doctor suggests a myomomectomy, but I am
scarred of surgery–although I am feeling it is the best thing to do. Do
you have any information on this form of surgery? Has it helped you or a
friend?

Yes, you will be scarred from a myomectomy, but it is not a scary operation!
I had one 3 years ago and am glad I did. It put an immediate end to my very
painful, very heavy monthly periods and now they are normal.
Fibroid tumors don’t just go away. They will shrink when you hit menopause,
but they don’t disappear. If they are causing you pain, you should have them
removed. They can interfere with menstruation and with fertility.
Just be sure to get a _good_ doctor and one who will agree to leave your uterus
in. I went to 3 doctors before I found a good one. Many will want to do a
hysterectomy because that is easier and faster for them. But there is
absolutely no reason to have a hysterectomy because of fibroids!!!

Fibroids can be treated. I agree that they don’t ‘just go away,’ but
treatment is available (acupuncture, herbs) that can reduce their size, and
certainly eliminate the discomfort involved. It requires substantial
intervention, no doubt about it. But it is just no so that the only option is
surgery.
