I was taking 1750 mcg (providing 200 mcg of elemental chromium) twice a
day. I was using the Metagenics brand. I stopped, however, when the
report came out on chrominsomal damage to Chinese hamsters, indicating
that it could be a human carcinegin. I’ve gained about three pounds since
stopping, and my diet’s been about the same, so I believe the chromium
picolinate had value as a ‘fat-burner’. That value is limited, of course,
if it kills you.

They were giving those animals about 6000 times the normal dose of CP.
Can you think of anything that wouldn’t hurt you with a dose that high?

The November 6, 1995 issue of Newsweek may shed some light on your
question about chromium picolinate. Richard Anderson, a chromium
expert at the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Human Nutrition
Research Center, notes that the researchers (at Dartmouth and George
Washington University) subjected the Chinese hamsters to "excessive
amounts" of chromium picolinate.
I have lost 35 lbs. gently, one or two lbs. a week since February of
’94 when I first learned about it am very pleased with the way it has
worked on my non-Chinese hamster body.
I recommend that you continue with your chromium picolinate but at the
200 mcg. per day level (not overdo it) and get rid of the weight that
is really hurting your body!

Well start again, unless you were taking 6,000 times the recommended daily
dose. That’s what they did in the experiment.
